Long-Term Care and Resident Rights
National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care. A leading
advocate for the rights and quality of care of people receiving long-term care; offers consumer fact sheets on nursing home and home care rights (theconsumervoice.org).
Medicare Rights Center. A national nonprofit that helps people understand Medicare and appeal denials; runs a consumer helpline and clear online guides (medicarerights.org).
Legal Help:
National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).
A professional association whose directory helps you find attorneys focused on elder law, Medicaid planning, and guardianship alternatives (naela.org).
Elder Justice Coalition. A national advocacy coalition focused on preventing elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation and supporting the programs that respond to it (elderjusticecoalition.com).
Caregiving and Dementia
Alzheimer’s Association. Information, care navigation, and support for families facing dementia, including a helpline. The Association lists a 24/7 helpline at 800-272-3900; verify the current number at alz.org before relying on it (alz.org).
National Alliance for Caregiving. Research and resources
supporting family caregivers, useful for understanding and preventing caregiver burnout (caregiving.org).
ARCH National Respite Network. Helps families locate respite care and understand their respite options (archrespite.org).
AARP. Consumer information, caregiving tools, and advocacy on issues affecting older adults and their families (aarp.org).
Medicare Fraud
Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP). Helps beneficiaries prevent, detect, and report Medicare fraud, errors, and abuse (smpresource.org).
Veterans
Veteran Service Organizations. Accredited organizations such as the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and Disabled American Veterans (DAV) assist veterans and survivors with benefit claims, including Aid and Attendance, at no cost.
