What is the definition of an Internet Guru? Is it someone who knows a little bit about many aspects of the Internet ( a generalist), or someone who knows everything there is to know about one aspect of the Internet (an expert)? I would put to you that an Internet guru must be both a generalist who has broad knowledge on all aspects of the Internet, as well as serious expertise in several of these same aspects.
Do you know how the underlying internet works? How do you mask an IP address? Is that a 3 bit or 4 bit subnet you want to partition for better performance? Many of these issues are non issues with today's large pipes and forgiving algorithms, but the initial design on the Internet took items like latency into consideration. Can you explain how DNS works to resolve names into number and back? How many domains did you register when it was a simple email process to regritrar@internic.net?
Most self proclaimed Internet gurus are really more like Internet Marketing experts, if they are truly even expert there, or simply selling you something you may or may not need. Do they know how the internet works? Do they even need to know how? There are lots of moving parts and pieces to building an online enterprise. Wouldn't it be better to partner with someone who understands the underlying principles upon which everything is built, so that as new crazes come about, you have a frame of reference upon which to evaluate their impact on your business?
And can you be a self proclaimed guru, or does it need to come from your customers? My testimonials speak for themselves, regardless of where you read them or which site they are on.
I was not even the first to use the term on my behalf. It was a competitor who claims I was a "so called guru" because I offered to put small business onto the first page of Google with my Google SEO Expert tools. They claimed bunk, but my customers claim otherwise!
